Outdoor Cinema

An evening at Missoula Outdoor CinemaMissoula Outdoor Cinema (MOC) brings free or low cost (donations accepted) cinema to the play-field next to the Northside’s old Whittier School, now Child Start Inc. The MOC has provided weekend evening entertainment since 2002, serving more than 17,000 people.

History

With a trial weekend in the summer of 2002, the MOC was enormously well attended right from the start. Though we’ve since grown to fill every weekend of July and August, the positive energy and community support of the trial season has continued through each of the 11 years since that first showing.

A Missoula Event

MOC means summer in Missoula. Missoulians from all parts of town often arrive long before the show begins, watching their children play in the schoolyard, catching up with friends, and setting up their blankets and lawn chairs. They slowly begin to settle into their spots and curl up to watch the show, snacking on MOC treats or homemade picnic dinners. Hundreds of people, lots of food, and dozens of children enjoy the MOC each weekend, and yet volunteers who help clean up on Sunday mornings often express amazement at how well the patrons pick up after themselves. There can be no stronger indicator, truly, of public participation and support. Each year, the NMCDC strives to bring you an eclectic mix of new, classic, children’s, independent, and perfect date night films. Check out this year’s summer lineup!

Volunteers Needed!

Each year, we count on our dedicated volunteers to help “run the show.” This is the best volunteer gig in town, folks! Meet your neighbors, visit with friends, serve up piping hot popcorn and delicious candy, collect donations for the NMCDC, and, most importantly, sit back and enjoy the show! Visit our MOC Volunteer page or email Rachael for more info.
