Missoula Outdoor Cinema

So who needs the Drive-in?

Missoula Outdoor Cinema is how summer should be enjoyed! It's all about 12 weeks of great movies and neighborhood fun. Why simmer away in the heat when you can enjoy the wonders of a refreshing Missoula evening outside?
View of the big screen
Missoula Outdoor Cinema (MOC) is big screen celebration of animation, film shorts and feature films. Movies are projected outside on a huge 12' X 25' movie screen. Neighbors "walk-in" to the grounds of the Headstart playground (the old Whittier School on the corner of Worden and Philips).

For more information, visit the new MOC web site.

Imagine walking on a beautiful summer evening, blanket in hand, picnic basket filled with fried chicken, potato salad and cold lemonade. You enter a wonderland of sights and sounds-- a huge screen, the fragrance of fresh popping popcorn, the island sounds of Bob Marley amidst the sparkle and glow of carnival lights. You sit back with a comfortable sweater and soak up the sounds and sights of summer: great music, happy kids and awesome movies. This is Missoula at its best!

Fresh popcorn!Folks should bring small and compact seating and are welcome to bring their own picnic food and non-alcoholic beverages. Fresh popcorn and movie concessions will also be available. To make the event friendly to all pocketbooks, there is no admission charge (a $5.00 per person donation encouraged).

People are often curious about how an event like this will coincide with summer's late daylight hours. MOC uses a 2,600 lumen digital projector, which provides a really bright hi-resolution image. The screen is 12 feet tall and 25 feet wide and mounted on the side of the three-story building. It's all backed up with a big league sound system. Gates open at 8:00 pm so folks can come early and listen to music, hang out, greet friends, and have dinner. Kids can play on the playground. It's really fun and very inexpensive.

MOC's profits benefit affordable housing, historic preservation, food security, educational activities for kids, and projects like the Northside Greenway and Project Playground. On top of that, Outdoor Cinema provides an affordable event for the whole family in a great neighborhood site. Outdoor Cinema relies upon donations from the public and sponsorship from local businesses. Contributions are tax deductible and a great way for businesses to invest in Missoula's quality of life.

For more information about business sponsorship and advertising opportunities, please contact the NMCDC at 829-0873 or visit the MOC web site at www.missoulaoutdoorcinema.org.
